Topic 9 – How to practice Calm Breathing

How to practice Calm Breathing

How to Do It

  • Sit comfortably in a chair with your back straight and feet on the floor.
  • Find your belly button and cover it with your hand.
  • Breath in through your nose as you push against your hand so your stomach expands outwards. Imagine you are blowing up a balloon (stomach) and the inhalation ends when the ‘balloon is full’.
  • Breath out through your mouth, deflating the balloon until your belly collapses a little underneath your hand.
  • Repeat.  Try to build up to 21 breathes
  • Practice regularly.
  • You can also practice lying on your back.
